Little Chester Allotment Site Rules
Our rules are summarised here. All of them also appear in the Tenancy Agreement which you sign annually.
1. Rent is payable annually – usually in October/November
2. Tenants will pay a £20.00 deposit for a site key which MUST be returned to LCAA should the Tenant leave. The deposit will be refunded.
3. No replica keys must be made. The key/s must be used only by the namedTenant or a person nominated by them.
4. Plots are specifically for the cultivation of vegetables, fruit, flowers, for consumption and enjoyment by the Tenant and their family.
5. Plots are expected to show a good state of cultivation and fertility, with noxious weeds being reduced regularly.
6. The Tenant must keep the plot/s free of hazards eg broken glass (glass is NOT allowed on site in new structures) or scrap metal.
7. Tenants and their visitors are not allowed on other Tenants’ plots without their express permission.
8. Children must be supervised at all times – including trips to the toilet.
9. Tenants shall not prune or cut trees without the written consent of the Association.
10. Barbed wire or razor wire is not permitted on site.
11. Public paths and trackways must be kept clear at all times.
12. Vehicles are left at owner’s risk.
13. The on-site speed limit is 5 mph. This is for everyone’s safety and must be adhered to at all times.
14. Tenants must practise sensible and safe water conservation wherever
possible. Water butts must be covered.
15. Hosepipes may be used in poly tunnels and greenhouses but can only be used outside on plots by registered disabled people only.
16. Open bonfires on Tenants’ plots are forbidden. Contained fires (e.g. in an incinerator) may be used to burn diseased plant materials, and dried out organic material that will burn without smoke and hazardous residue.
Such fires are allowed on-site between 1st November and the last day of February ONLY. All fires must be attended and fully extinguished before leaving the site.
17. TENANTS MUST DISPOSE OF WASTE ON THEIR PLOTS THEMSELVES. The on-site skip is specifically for the use of the Maintenance team ONLY. Waste must not be disposed of on another plot – even if it looks empty.
18. Tenants must not bring any rubbish on to the site or place any matter in hedges, ditches, dykes etc surrounding the site.
19. Dogs MUST be kept on leads. Dog faeces must be removed and disposed of, off-site by the Tenant
20. Tenants are not allowed to use carpet or underlay on plots.
21. Use of pesticides and herbicides is not actively encouraged. When using sprays of any kind Tenants must take reasonable care that adjoining hedges, trees and neighbours’ crops are not adversely affected (check wind direction etc). Only government approved chemicals may be used on site and only in compliance with relevant legislation.
22. Tenants shall not put up any signs/notices etc, other than their plot number, without prior permission of the Association.
Essentially, you are asked to be an active Tenant in cultivating your plot and a considerate Tenant towards other Tenants and the Committee.
