Plots & site facilities

Little Chester Allotments is a well-established site and with excellent facilities for plotholders and visitors. The site has:

  • A large community room and covered outdoor area with disabled access. There is plenty of seating, equipment to make hot drinks and drinking water available.
  • A modern toilet block with separate male and female facilities. Both with disabled access.
  • Water troughs at regular intervals throughout the site.
  • A hard surfaced road running to all plots, with a restricted speed limit of 5mph.
  • Two hard surfaced parking areas.
  • An onsite shop selling a wide variety of gardening products and recycled tools and materials.
  • A secure hawthorn boundary with access only through padlocked gates.
  • A wildlife area

The plots are divided up into full, half size and starter plots. A full size plot covers approximately 250 square metres or 300 square yards. All plots can be accessed by road, with car parking spaces available on site. Full sized plot holders are encouraged to create a parking space on their plot to ensure roadways do not become blocked.

Plot prices for 2014-2015

  Annual Rent
Starter plot £16
Half plot £25
Full plot £47

All new plot holders must also pay a £20 refundable plot deposit and a £10 refundable key deposit (additional keys are available for an extra £10 per key).

Sheds, polycarbonate greenhouses and polytunnels are permitted on plots providing consent has been sought from the committee. Many plots already have these structures, as well as some pre-existing glass greenhouses. Water conservation is encouraged and many plots have water butts running off sheds.

Starter plots have recently been created to cater for those with little or no experience, as well as people with very limited time or needs. These plots provide a smaller growing space to people who have previously felt unable to commit to a full or half plot but who have wanted to benefit from the allotment environment and community. A secure communal shed is available for starter plot holders to use to store equipment.

Support and guidance is available to all new plot holders from members of the committee, however existing plot holders are a great source of knowledge and are generally only too happy to help.
