Plot to Plate - Disability Direct

Plot to Plate

Plot to Plate is a project run by local charity Disability Direct for older and disabled people who want to be involved in allotments but are restricted by access needs.

The project was initially funded by Awards for All which allowed Disability Direct to build an accessible plot with level pathways and raised beds. The project has been open to members since April 2017 and has had a successful first summer which saw the members grow an array of produce whilst learning about germination, crop rotation, companion planting, and all the nasty insects which inevitably destroyed their brassicas!

The project currently has 8 regular members who attend twice a week on a Monday and Wednesday to tend to the plot supported by Alison Stirland and Sally, Claire or Lea from Disability Direct.

Plot to Plate also runs regular cookery classes using produce from the plot and activity where people learn to make nesting boxes, plant labels, bug hotels and much more. These extra activities and cookery classes are open to any disabled and older people in the community.

The project is closing down for the winter now whilst more work is carried out to ensure all areas are accessible to its members.

We will be reopening in March and will be looking for new members to join the project. If you want to get involved, contact or call 01332 299449
